Motivation Looks Like This

motivation

Today I feel great. I feel inspired. The words are flowing out freely as I write. It’s a nice change. Recently I have been in a bit of a rut in my life and I feel I lost my “blogging groove” temporarily. I don’t think the quality of my articles suffered at all, but they felt so much harder to write.

Given the change between how I have felt the past few days and how I felt last week I have identified 4 signs that I am in a motivated state:

The Most Important Tip Of All

Tips. Tips for finding your dream job. Tips for eating well. Tips for becoming a better writer. Tips for improving your life. Everywhere I look on the Internet, I see lists of tips! What’s going on???

The answer is simple: people love reading tips. Because people love reading tips, bloggers write articles with tips. Its all about supply and demand (my old Economics 101 tutor would be so proud!). All these tips are useless though if you don’t practice the most important tip of all…..

8 Ways to Make Routine Tasks Interesting

Driving a car….. after the initial period of learning and the excitement of getting your licence it becomes a fairly routine activity. As part of my move to Canada, I am now having to get used to driving on the wrong (ie right) hand side of the road. Its not too hard to adjust, but it is necessary to pay extra attention so I don’t suddenly find myself on course for a head-on collision.

I don’t suggest people start driving on the opposite side of the road to what they should, so here are 8 other ways to spice up seemingly routine activities:

The Trash Talking Epidemic

“Great minds talk about ideas, average minds talk about events, and small minds talk about people.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

I love the Eleanor Roosevelt quote above. It really captures the feeling I had the other day in the checkout line at the supermarket when I was surrounded by numerous celebrity magazines. I’m sick of such rags. I don’t care who is in rehab. I don’t care who is out of rehab. I don’t care who is skinny. And I really don’t care who is fat.

Waking early is without a doubt one of the biggest changes I have made since starting my personal development journey. Why You Should Move Away

move away

Well, it has been a week since my last post – an interlude far longer than I normally plan. It has, however, been a big week for me. A week of big decisions that will affect the rest of my life. This past week I committed to moving overseas for a number of years. We leave in 6 weeks time. My fiancee, Kathryn, is from Vancouver and we are moving there so that she can be closer to her family after having lived in Australia for 3 years.

The following are some reasons why you might consider moving overseas:

7 Keys to Reducing Stress in Your Life

reducing stress

Deadlines. Speaking in public. Buying Christmas presents. Peak hour traffic. An unsatisfying job. Financial problems. Relationship woes. These are just a few examples of things that cause stress in our lives.

Before I go any further, it should be pointed out that stress can be a positive. Often, as in the example of a student sitting an exam, it will increase our performance. Also stressful events – a wedding, a new baby, or a new house – can change our lives for the better. Despite these potential positives, stress can harm your health, emotional well-being, and relationships with others.

Lessons from a Reformed Lurker

Ok I admit it… I was an Internet lurker. By this, I mean that I was one of those people who read discussions on forums and message boards but never participated. As someone who now enjoys making a contribution on the Internet, I thought I would take a look at some lessons I have learnt.

Firstly, was there anything wrong with being a lurker? My former lurking could best be described as benign (see the Wikipedia lurker page). That is, my lack of motivation to contribute can probably be explained by feeling uncomfortable expressing my thoughts online accompanied with a touch of laziness. I was certainly never a smart-ass or perverted lurker. So in this sense, my lurking never impacted negatively upon anyone else. That said, I have learnt the following

Exercise Every Day

exercise every day

One of the keys to success, if not the key, is the development of good habits. I could go on about the importance of habits all day, but today I want to write about habits in relation to exercise. In particular, what I believe is one of the best habits to develop for good health: exercise every day.

Firstly, everyone exercises for different reasons. Some people wish to lose weigh. Some people wish to increase their strength. Some people enjoy the social aspect of it. Some enjoy the competition. You get the idea. Despite these different reasons, everyone would agree that you feel great after exercise. The post-exercise surge in endorphins makes you feel on top of the world.
